My good friend, this article will mess with your ego.  But that is okay because we all need to align ourselves with the truth.  And the truth is, we are not much in control of our own bodies.  In fact, our intentional control of our body performance and function is minimal against our reflexive and involuntary control.  The human body makes millions and millions of decisions every split second.  These functions are controlled through reflexes that make the best decisions in regard to the underlying situations.  If you think about it, it is absolutely marvelous.  All the “human computers”, put together, cannot perform the function of a single human body.  The majority of this data integration happens in your . . . . you guessed it . . . . .Central Nervous System, which is your brain and spine.  When the spinal column experiences stress due to the mechanical pressure of muscles and bones around it, the nerve functions alter.  The same happens when the discs and ligaments around the spine place abnormal tension on the nerves.  When the function is disturbed, the spine begins to make poor decisions.  Then disease-state sets in.  Note that the word disease comes from: “dis” (lack of), and “ease”.  The lack of ease in the body can lead to major symptoms, such as pain, discomfort, numbness, migraines, and even digestive and immune system problems.

We might not be in control of everything in our bodies.  But we are in full control of maintaining the longevity and well-being of our brain and spine.  Year after year, chiropractic research is demonstrating the superiority of spinal adjustments over other temporary pain relief treatments.  To all my maintenance patients who receive regular adjustments: be strengthened in will and continue your journey in wellness care.
